What is NEM?

NEM allows Solar PV System owners to self-consume the generated electricity and export excess energy (kWh) to the grid.

Who is eligible to apply for NEM?

Yes, anyone registered as a consumer with Tenaga Nasional Malaysia (TNB) in Peninsular Malaysia, with the name/company name matching the TNB bill, is eligible.

Is a non-local or foreign company eligible for NEM?

Yes, as long as they are registered consumers of TNB.

Can I bring the solar system when I move?

Charges for panel relocation to a new address will apply. Necessary documents must be signed, and SEDA will be informed for the update on relocation. The NEM scheme remains the same.

Is there a warranty for the solar system?

Yes, there is a 30-year Linear Power Warranty and a 12-year Manufacturer Warranty.

What kind of maintenance do solar panels require?

Solar panels are generally low-maintenance. Regular cleaning is needed to remove dust and debris for optimal performance. Check for damage, maintain the mounting structure, monitor energy output, and prevent shading from trees while deterring birds.

What types of installations are eligible under NEM?

Eligible installations include rooftop installations on buildings, garages, car parks, or similar structures. Ground-mounted systems may be allowed on a case-by-case basis within the applicant’s premises, subject to Energy Commission approval.

What is the maximum capacity one can apply for?

Maximum capacities vary based on consumer categories, ranging from 5kWac for single-phase domestic systems to 1MWac for government entities and commercial/industrial consumers.

Who can apply for NEM?

Registered TNB consumers in Peninsular Malaysia, not blacklisted, and falling under tariff categories such as domestic/residential, commercial (including government buildings), industrial, and agriculture.

Can my roof sustain the weight of the solar panels?

A structural analysis will be conducted, and a professional engineer’s endorsement will be obtained before installing the panels.
